Noisy Ceiling Fan Motor
Position a ladder or step stool so you have access to one or two fan blades.
Noisy ceiling fan motor. For example a grinding noise may be due to faulty noisy ceiling fan motor. If your ceiling fan is making a rattling sound the problem could be loose screws. A rattling sound may mean there are some loose parts.
Due to prolonged use the bearings may start to wear down and the lubrication used to reduce the friction and noise can dissipate. The fan motor uses ball bearings to enable the blades to rotate. A buzzing noise can be from some electrical issue.
An intermittent noise or scraping noise may be caused by the fan s blade brackets dragging on the fan shroud or motor housing cover. A grinding noise may be from a faulty motor. Tighten the motor cover.
The issue occurs when the motor cover comes slightly loose from its position. For example a rattling sound may mean loose parts. If the screws which connect the ceiling fan blades to the motor are loose then you can tighten them up.
Eventually your ceiling fan may start producing humming or rubbing noise. Possible causes of ceiling fan noises. Replacement parts may need to be installed in fans and other pieces might have to be adjusted to hush a hum.
If you hear a rattling or a rubbing noise the fan blades could be bent. In fact this is most likely the case if you can see that your ceiling fan is swinging in the air. If this occurs your fan will start to experience some bearing noise in the form of rubbing or humming.
