Lowering Ceiling For Loft Conversion
Are dormers being proposed.
Lowering ceiling for loft conversion. The general rule of thumb measurement is 2 2m from the top of the existing joists to the underside of the ridge the point in the middle. We didn t want less than that. Also has anyone did something similar in your road so you could check out what is possible.
I think you would need to know how high the loft conversion would be to make a decision i e ceiling height in 3 bedrooms vs 1 lower ceiling in new loft room. 2 4m is the standard ceiling height. I was wondering if you could help with some advice on how to proceed with lowering the joists of my living room ceiling so that when i decide to do a loft conversion it is all ready.
This could be a hip to gable loft conversion or a mansard conversion for example. However the average dormer loft conversion with a double bedroom and en suite costs about 35 000 45 000. I ve got a question about the finish.
I own a victorian conversion 3 bed flat that has a very spacious loft asking for a conversion. Talk to your loft conversion company about the length of time the work will take and any disruption expected before work commences. This option is the most expensive as it requires the complex removal and rebuild of the existing roof.
First thing i would do is find out what height you can achieve without lowering the ceiling and whether you would be happy with that. Due to lack of height in my loft and meeting building regs for dormer roof u value etc without lowering the ceilings below i would struggle to achieve much more than 1 9m in the main room directly above 1st floor rear bedroom and adjoining en suite directly. I am looking to lower the ceiling on the first floor to allow enough space for a loft conversion as the height i currently have is not enough.
We didn t lower our ceilings in the end but we were originally going to. Another disadvantage with this type of project is the disruption it will cause. Our loft conversion is just being finished off at the moment.
