How To Wire A Ceiling Fan With 4 Wires
From my ceiling there are 4 black wires and 4 white wires.
How to wire a ceiling fan with 4 wires. Make a pigtail of the ground wire using two 6 inch lengths of bare wire and connect one ground wire to the fan switch and one to the light switch. If your device does not have lights the same step applies. Connect the black wires together.
The white wire is your neutral wire the copper wire is the grounded wire and the black wire powers the fan. Connect the red wire from the fan to the other terminal on the fan switch and the black wire to the light switch. Make connections as shown.
When completing your 4 wire ceiling fan switch wiring remember to connect the black wire to the unit s black and blue wires. Twist all the white wires in the box together and cap them. Likewise twist all of the white wires together.
For ceiling fans without lights follow the same step. You can also connect the blue wires or the blue to the black wire. Then a 3 wire cable from there also going to the ceiling fan.
Then leaving the double switch box is a 3 wire cable going to the ceiling fan and a 4 wire cable going to the other 3 way switch. Notice this circuit has a 3 wire cable power source coming into the double switch box. Insert the light kit or the switch housing cap into the bottom of the switch housing.
Twist the wire connectors back onto the two sets of wires if you removed a light kit from your ceiling fan. Cap the red wire and leave it untouched in the junction box. There are two ways to connect a 12 2 wire to this cable.
