Ceiling Fan Humming Noise Dimmer Switch
A fan speed control is not the same as a dimmer switch.

A buzzing noise can be from some electrical issue. High quality more expensive dimmers usually dampen the electrical pulse better than the inexpensive types. You can check this by removing a few bulbs and seeing if the buzzing gets better.
For example a grinding noise may be due to faulty noisy ceiling fan motor. If you ve installed high wattage bulbs in your chandelier the switch may be over capacity. Bad receivers are another possibility if you are using a fan that uses a remote control.
We suggest using a hunter control system to dim your ceiling fan lights. Swapping out a dimmer switch is usually a simple matter of disconnecting and reconnecting three wires. Most are not designed for dimmers and in addition to producing a humming noise the dimmer switch can burn out the motor.
